The Content AuditTM
   Like other communications audits, the Content AuditTM compares the perceptions of internal and external audiences, asking what the market's audience wants and how it is under-served with information. This instrument examines a firm's expertise and explores how that can be packaged to meet the information needs of the market and advance the commitment of purchasers. It identifies the opportunities and logistics for acquiring and developing content, determines the budget and staff resources required, looks at what is cost effective and what isn't, and establishes ongoing content evaluation criteria.    Mel Thompson is the principal of Vision Publishing, Inc. He has been a professional business-to-business communicator for 23 years. He has developed and implemented content-oriented marketing communications plans for:

   Mel has bylined and ghost written articles in numerous trade publications. He has acquired databases and developed newsletters for many firms selling to businesses and professionals.
   Mel is one of the former principals of a full-service business-to-business marketing communications agency, past editor and owner/publisher of a

healthcare information service, and the former vice president of direct and interactive communications for a large Boston public relations firm.
   Mel has a master?s in communications from Boston University. He is past president of the Boston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and past chair of PRSA?s Northeast District.
